Narrative:

I was in the traffic pattern at rhv runway 31R with my instructor and another passenger. We received takeoff clearance and executed a right pattern. We did not receive landing clearance on short final, so we went around. While still on short final, the controller cleared another aircraft for position and hold. The other aircraft entered the runway at that time. We called the tower and told him we were going around and that he had cleared other traffic ahead of us on the runway he then chastised us for not giving 'position reports' (which are not usually required, and not requested of us anyway). We returned around the pattern and received clearance at the last min after we had initiated a go around. We went around again and finally landed with clearance, only after the first controller was relieved by another one.

Title: TRAINEE AND INSTRUCTOR EXECUTE GAR AT RHV WHEN CTLR PUTS ANOTHER SMA ACFT ON RWY 31R WHEN C172 IS ON SHORT FINAL.

Narrative: I WAS IN THE TFC PATTERN AT RHV RWY 31R WITH MY INSTRUCTOR AND ANOTHER PAX. WE RECEIVED TKOF CLRNC AND EXECUTED A R PATTERN. WE DID NOT RECEIVE LNDG CLRNC ON SHORT FINAL, SO WE WENT AROUND. WHILE STILL ON SHORT FINAL, THE CTLR CLRED ANOTHER ACFT FOR POS AND HOLD. THE OTHER ACFT ENTERED THE RWY AT THAT TIME. WE CALLED THE TWR AND TOLD HIM WE WERE GOING AROUND AND THAT HE HAD CLRED OTHER TFC AHEAD OF US ON THE RWY HE THEN CHASTISED US FOR NOT GIVING 'POS RPTS' (WHICH ARE NOT USUALLY REQUIRED, AND NOT REQUESTED OF US ANYWAY). WE RETURNED AROUND THE PATTERN AND RECEIVED CLRNC AT THE LAST MIN AFTER WE HAD INITIATED A GAR. WE WENT AROUND AGAIN AND FINALLY LANDED WITH CLRNC, ONLY AFTER THE FIRST CTLR WAS RELIEVED BY ANOTHER ONE.
