I (C150) was on downwind and cleared to land by sacramento capital tower. I saw 2 commercial aircraft taxiing to departure end. I called tower and asked if they wanted me to 'extend my downwind.

Title: A C150 PLT, IN THE PATTERN AT SMF, MADE AN EFFORT TO EXPEDITE HIS ARR BY SHORTENING THE APCH WITHOUT TWR APPROVAL.
Narrative: I (C150) WAS ON DOWNWIND AND CLRED TO LAND BY SACRAMENTO CAPITAL TWR. I SAW 2 COMMERCIAL ACFT TAXIING TO DEP END. I CALLED TWR AND ASKED IF THEY WANTED ME TO 'EXTEND MY DOWNWIND.
