Narrative:

On vectors for lda runway 22 at lga. Just approaching lga VOR from the south received an RA to monitor vertical speed. There was a cessna single engine at 4500 ft crossing over flight path right to left. The approach control failed to point out traffic. While a climb or descent was not called for by TCASII we did receive a TA. We were at 4000 ft. It would have been nice if approach would have pointed traffic out to us. I reported the TA to approach and was given a frequency change. I asked that controller if they were working the cessna and he said they were. It would be nice while in class B airspace to have 1000 ft separation with all traffic VFR and IFR.
