Narrative:

We were instructed to taxi from west side FBO ramp at hou to runway 12R. First officer was taxiing aircraft from left seat while captain was programming the FMS (head down). First officer missed turnoff for runway 12R mistaking runway 12L for correct runway. In the process first officer proceeded to partially cross 'hold short' line for 'active' runway 17. Although never fully crossing the line, hou tower 'saved the day' by clearing our aircraft for immediate takeoff on runway 17. Corrective actions -- 1) both pilots should be heads up and alert in possible runway incursion areas. Captain brought aircraft to complete stop before reaching runway edge line. Contributing factor -- signage around the 3 intersecting runways is poorly done.
