Narrative:

We were authority/authorized to deviate from a southerly course eastbound to avoid a WX return -- a visual sighting of a thunderstorm which was contouring on radar and displaying moderate virga. Dayton approach assigned a heading of 210 degrees which we queried for alternate or delayed turn to avoid WX. Controller insisted we turn immediately. I turned left towards a course reversal as the frequency was then congested and we had excellent visibility to the east. Any westerly turn would have placed the aircraft in IMC. I later spoke to supervisor who stated we were always 6 NM from traffic.
