Narrative:

I was beginning a VFR flight from tucson to burbank. I was the pilot, and sole occupant of the plane. Tucson ground told me to taxi to runway 11L via taxiway A6. I began my taxi. The taxiway at the north end of the tucson airport is, as I recall, an extension of the parking area, an apron off the ramp. I headed to taxiway A6 and expected to cross a grassy area and then turn right onto where I expected the taxiway to be. I failed to see the hold short line and turned right, following the yellow strip onto what I thought was the taxiway. It was not. It was the main runway and a jet was on final. I immediately realized and exited the runway in a matter of a few seconds. However, tus tower instructed the jet flight to go around. There was sufficient spatial separation to not need to term it a 'close call' however, I did make the error. This was not about flying skills or even judgement. It was about distraction. I was distraction, flying alone, and missed seeing the hold short line. The nature of the apron taxiway somewhat confused me in that I was expecting the taxiway to be further ahead. What I learned: that constant awareness of your position on the ground is paramount. That complete focus must be made during taxi. That the airport field diagram should be studied before taxi. That distraction during taxi is not acceptable under any circumstances.

Title: A C310 PLT, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT TUS, CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR HIS RWY, RESULTING IN A TWR INITIATED GAR FOR TFC ON FINAL.

Narrative: I WAS BEGINNING A VFR FLT FROM TUCSON TO BURBANK. I WAS THE PLT, AND SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE PLANE. TUCSON GND TOLD ME TO TAXI TO RWY 11L VIA TXWY A6. I BEGAN MY TAXI. THE TXWY AT THE N END OF THE TUCSON ARPT IS, AS I RECALL, AN EXTENSION OF THE PARKING AREA, AN APRON OFF THE RAMP. I HEADED TO TXWY A6 AND EXPECTED TO CROSS A GRASSY AREA AND THEN TURN R ONTO WHERE I EXPECTED THE TXWY TO BE. I FAILED TO SEE THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND TURNED R, FOLLOWING THE YELLOW STRIP ONTO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE TXWY. IT WAS NOT. IT WAS THE MAIN RWY AND A JET WAS ON FINAL. I IMMEDIATELY REALIZED AND EXITED THE RWY IN A MATTER OF A FEW SECONDS. HOWEVER, TUS TWR INSTRUCTED THE JET FLT TO GO AROUND. THERE WAS SUFFICIENT SPATIAL SEPARATION TO NOT NEED TO TERM IT A 'CLOSE CALL' HOWEVER, I DID MAKE THE ERROR. THIS WAS NOT ABOUT FLYING SKILLS OR EVEN JUDGEMENT. IT WAS ABOUT DISTR. I WAS DISTR, FLYING ALONE, AND MISSED SEEING THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE NATURE OF THE APRON TXWY SOMEWHAT CONFUSED ME IN THAT I WAS EXPECTING THE TXWY TO BE FURTHER AHEAD. WHAT I LEARNED: THAT CONSTANT AWARENESS OF YOUR POS ON THE GND IS PARAMOUNT. THAT COMPLETE FOCUS MUST BE MADE DURING TAXI. THAT THE ARPT FIELD DIAGRAM SHOULD BE STUDIED BEFORE TAXI. THAT DISTR DURING TAXI IS NOT ACCEPTABLE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
