Narrative:

Taxiing for takeoff runway 1L sfo, had an airbus in front going to runway 1R. Followed airbus vice going to parallel taxiway as instructed. Ended up behind airbus at a runway entrance. When cleared to taxi to runway, saw runway entrance and was starting to taxi toward runway when copilot looked up and inquired 'have we been cleared onto the runway?' stopped aircraft and said 'let's check.' we had not. Ground said we had a flow approximately 11 mins away. Stopped well behind runway entrance, but with nose of aircraft over hold short. Ground inquired whether we were on runway, and we noted that we were nose over hold short, waiting for clearance. Ground directed us to back-taxi on runway to full length, hold short and await clearance. No further problems. Bust was mine -- saved from runway incursion by first officer. I anticipated a clearance I hadn't received, partially confused by being on wrong taxiway behind airbus. Copilot was head down, taking care of FMC and came up just in time to see my mistake. I will be much more aware and careful around runway entrances in the future.

Title: LGT CAPT INADVERTENTLY TAXIED WITH ACFT NOSE OVER THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE AND STOPPED AFT AFTER THE FO LOOKED UP AND QUESTIONED HIS CLRNC.

Narrative: TAXIING FOR TKOF RWY 1L SFO, HAD AN AIRBUS IN FRONT GOING TO RWY 1R. FOLLOWED AIRBUS VICE GOING TO PARALLEL TXWY AS INSTRUCTED. ENDED UP BEHIND AIRBUS AT A RWY ENTRANCE. WHEN CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY, SAW RWY ENTRANCE AND WAS STARTING TO TAXI TOWARD RWY WHEN COPLT LOOKED UP AND INQUIRED 'HAVE WE BEEN CLRED ONTO THE RWY?' STOPPED ACFT AND SAID 'LET'S CHK.' WE HAD NOT. GND SAID WE HAD A FLOW APPROX 11 MINS AWAY. STOPPED WELL BEHIND RWY ENTRANCE, BUT WITH NOSE OF ACFT OVER HOLD SHORT. GND INQUIRED WHETHER WE WERE ON RWY, AND WE NOTED THAT WE WERE NOSE OVER HOLD SHORT, WAITING FOR CLRNC. GND DIRECTED US TO BACK-TAXI ON RWY TO FULL LENGTH, HOLD SHORT AND AWAIT CLRNC. NO FURTHER PROBS. BUST WAS MINE -- SAVED FROM RWY INCURSION BY FO. I ANTICIPATED A CLRNC I HADN'T RECEIVED, PARTIALLY CONFUSED BY BEING ON WRONG TXWY BEHIND AIRBUS. COPLT WAS HEAD DOWN, TAKING CARE OF FMC AND CAME UP JUST IN TIME TO SEE MY MISTAKE. I WILL BE MUCH MORE AWARE AND CAREFUL AROUND RWY ENTRANCES IN THE FUTURE.
