Narrative:

Taxiing outbound from gate at yyz (toronto) to runway 23, ground gave us txwys B to H to runway 23. (We missed taxiway H.) the next intersection was the active runway. We did not catch our mistake until past the hold short line to runway 23. (We did not enter the runway.) just past the hold short line we stopped and ground called and told us to stop and hold our position. Nothing else was said by ground control. With a short taxi our attention was on a takeoff briefing as well as taxiing. We should have put more attention toward taxi, for I was unfamiliar with the airport. Ground control called us about the same time we were stopping. Ground control wanted to know if we could take an intersection departure. We preferred the full length. Ground control cleared us across the active runway (23) and to contact tower. No other traffic was in the area.

NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID BY GND CTL. WITH A SHORT TAXI OUR ATTN WAS ON A TKOF BRIEFING AS WELL AS TAXIING. WE SHOULD HAVE PUT MORE ATTN TOWARD TAXI, FOR I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT. GND CTL CALLED US ABOUT THE SAME TIME WE WERE STOPPING. GND CTL WANTED TO KNOW IF WE COULD TAKE AN INTXN DEP. WE PREFERRED THE FULL LENGTH. GND CTL CLRED US ACROSS THE ACTIVE RWY (23) AND TO CONTACT TWR. NO OTHER TFC WAS IN THE AREA.
