Narrative:

We were preparing for landing in ewr when the captain called to alert us that there was smoke in the cockpit and that he had declared an 'emergency landing' at ewr. He told us to prepare for an immediate landing and that he didn't think we would need to evacuate/evacuation, but to be prepared 'just in case.' it was very turbulent during the approach. My jump seat is in the forward galley. I could smell something burning, electrical. I could also hear the sound of oxygen from the demand masks, the _______. The cockpit crew must have had their oxygen masks on. After a very bumby approach, we landed safely in ewr. The crash trucks drove around the aircraft to make sure the plane was ok to approach the gate. The captain made a PA explaining the situation to the passenger. They were not alarmed at all. We, the cabin crew, were prepared to evacuate/evacuation in the event things had changed once we landed. Fortunately that was not the case.
