Narrative:

The controller cleared me to, 'taxi to the runway and hold short, waiting for IFR release.' I believe I read this back exactly as he said it, but in my mind I heard a different clearance, taxi into position and hold for IFR release. Contributing to my misinterpretation of the clearance was my anxiety about getting off in time to avoid a night landing at the destination, and the distraction of having my family with me in the aircraft. It had been a hurried and stressful event getting the kids loaded and prepped for the flight and I was ready to get off the ground. The departure airport was wiley post (pwa), and the destination airport was ZZZ. When I received what I thought was the 'taxi into position and hold clearance' I read it back and began to move. I made it as far as the edge of the runway before the controller reminded me I had received a 'hold short clearance.' I explained I thought it was an 'into position and hold' clearance. By the time I stopped I was well past the hold short line with the nose of the aircraft onto the active. The controller had to divert a landing aircraft to runway 35L, and this maneuver was handled easily by the other aircraft. The controller then cleared me for departure. I accepted the clearance, apologized for causing the diversion and deped. All this was a very professional and efficient exchange, and the best was made of the misunderstanding. As I considered what had happened I believe my misunderstanding was born from the comment 'waiting for IFR release.' I have heard this phrase before, but always in the context for a 'taxi into position and hold for IFR release' clearance. In my anxious state I took the words spoken by the controller and rearranged them into what I expected to hear. Without the extra 'waiting for IFR release' I would have only had the 'hold short' clearance to process. The extra information was offered as and explanation for the 'hold short' clearance, but it gave me more information than I needed and cluttered up the 'hold short' phraseology.

Title: PLT CROSSES HOLD SHORT LINE.

Narrative: THE CTLR CLRED ME TO, 'TAXI TO THE RWY AND HOLD SHORT, WAITING FOR IFR RELEASE.' I BELIEVE I READ THIS BACK EXACTLY AS HE SAID IT, BUT IN MY MIND I HEARD A DIFFERENT CLRNC, TAXI INTO POSITION AND HOLD FOR IFR RELEASE. I ACCEPTED THE CLRNC, APOLOGIZED FOR CAUSING THE DIVERSION AND DEPED. ALL THIS WAS A VERY PROFESSIONAL AND EFFICIENT EXCHANGE, AND THE BEST WAS MADE OF THE MISUNDERSTANDING. AS I CONSIDERED WHAT HAD HAPPENED I BELIEVE MY MISUNDERSTANDING WAS BORN FROM THE COMMENT 'WAITING FOR IFR RELEASE.' I HAVE HEARD THIS PHRASE BEFORE, BUT ALWAYS IN THE CONTEXT FOR A 'TAXI INTO POSITION AND HOLD FOR IFR RELEASE' CLRNC. IN MY ANXIOUS STATE I TOOK THE WORDS SPOKEN BY THE CTLR AND REARRANGED THEM INTO WHAT I EXPECTED TO HEAR. WITHOUT THE EXTRA 'WAITING FOR IFR RELEASE' I WOULD HAVE ONLY HAD THE 'HOLD SHORT' CLRNC TO PROCESS. THE EXTRA INFO WAS OFFERED AS AND EXPLANATION FOR THE 'HOLD SHORT' CLRNC, BUT IT GAVE ME MORE INFO THAN I NEEDED AND CLUTTERED UP THE 'HOLD SHORT' PHRASEOLOGY.
