Narrative:

En route from mia to dfw, ATC failed to contact us with the next sector frequency. Consequently, while searching for a possible frequency to regain contact, we were went an ACARS message telling us to contact ZHU on 132.17 southeast of redfn intersection. We had previously been on frequency 128.22 with mia. We never heard a call from mia if in fact an attempt was made. We were cruising at FL280. I was wondering if the reception at that altitude was not as good as higher altitudes and if the controller had anticipated our remaining in contact longer that the lost communication was due to this factor. Contact was made with ZHU at approximately XA15Z and no explanation was given nor any complaints.
