Narrative:
I was making my initial call-up to ground control after getting ATIS. I made my call-up and my push-to-talk button stuck. I pushed it again and ground was giving me my taxi clearance to runway 25 which I read back my squawk code and I believe I read back exactly what I heard which was 'xxr taxi runway 25.' I had a passenger with me and he also believed to hear the same thing. We began our taxi and when I got to runway 28R hold short line and just before I thought I should verify clearance to cross, but I believed, and I confirmed it with my passenger that ground said 'taxi to runway 25.' just as I crossed the hold short, ground called and said 'xxr you were told to hold short runway 28R.' ground then cleared us to expedite our crossing of runway 28R. I am going to go review the tapes as soon as I can to see what went wrong in this situation. I have learned to always write down my clrncs from now on. I guess what could have caused me to miss the hold short was the stuck microphone, incorrect readback, and I was a little nervous about the xwinds.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C172 PLT, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT BIL, CROSSED A HOLD SHORT LINE WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: I WAS MAKING MY INITIAL CALL-UP TO GND CTL AFTER GETTING ATIS. I MADE MY CALL-UP AND MY PUSH-TO-TALK BUTTON STUCK. I PUSHED IT AGAIN AND GND WAS GIVING ME MY TAXI CLRNC TO RWY 25 WHICH I READ BACK MY SQUAWK CODE AND I BELIEVE I READ BACK EXACTLY WHAT I HEARD WHICH WAS 'XXR TAXI RWY 25.' I HAD A PAX WITH ME AND HE ALSO BELIEVED TO HEAR THE SAME THING. WE BEGAN OUR TAXI AND WHEN I GOT TO RWY 28R HOLD SHORT LINE AND JUST BEFORE I THOUGHT I SHOULD VERIFY CLRNC TO CROSS, BUT I BELIEVED, AND I CONFIRMED IT WITH MY PAX THAT GND SAID 'TAXI TO RWY 25.' JUST AS I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT, GND CALLED AND SAID 'XXR YOU WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT RWY 28R.' GND THEN CLRED US TO EXPEDITE OUR XING OF RWY 28R. I AM GOING TO GO REVIEW THE TAPES AS SOON AS I CAN TO SEE WHAT WENT WRONG IN THIS SIT. I HAVE LEARNED TO ALWAYS WRITE DOWN MY CLRNCS FROM NOW ON. I GUESS WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO MISS THE HOLD SHORT WAS THE STUCK MIKE, INCORRECT READBACK, AND I WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT THE XWINDS.
