Narrative:

I was #1 for runway 23 at bed. I thought I heard tower indicate 'position and hold.' another aircraft was just departing. I confirmed 'position and hold,' after moving a short distance past hold line (I did not see any approaching aircraft), the tower indicated they had directed me to 'hold short.' (my passenger talking on busy tower frequency could have created/error if there was one.) the tower then indicated landing traffic 3/4 mi, and I should return to taxiway or depart immediately. Since my C182's takeoff is very fast, I departed. There was not any problem as the aircraft on final was asked to land safely. My error (if there was one) was misreading the tower. However, the tower did not immediately correct my response.

Title: A C182 TAXIES INTO POS AND HOLD WITH TFC ON SHORT FINAL WHEN TOLD TO HOLD SHORT BY CTLR AT BED, MA.

Narrative: I WAS #1 FOR RWY 23 AT BED. I THOUGHT I HEARD TWR INDICATE 'POS AND HOLD.' ANOTHER ACFT WAS JUST DEPARTING. I CONFIRMED 'POS AND HOLD,' AFTER MOVING A SHORT DISTANCE PAST HOLD LINE (I DID NOT SEE ANY APCHING ACFT), THE TWR INDICATED THEY HAD DIRECTED ME TO 'HOLD SHORT.' (MY PAX TALKING ON BUSY TWR FREQ COULD HAVE CREATED/ERROR IF THERE WAS ONE.) THE TWR THEN INDICATED LNDG TFC 3/4 MI, AND I SHOULD RETURN TO TXWY OR DEPART IMMEDIATELY. SINCE MY C182'S TKOF IS VERY FAST, I DEPARTED. THERE WAS NOT ANY PROB AS THE ACFT ON FINAL WAS ASKED TO LAND SAFELY. MY ERROR (IF THERE WAS ONE) WAS MISREADING THE TWR. HOWEVER, THE TWR DID NOT IMMEDIATELY CORRECT MY RESPONSE.
