Narrative:

In the FBO a different procedure was shown that was new. The clearance was climb 3000 ft turn 250 degree. Reaching 310 degree radial off lax then radar vectors. The flying captain and I went over the departure while in the FBO. And also the noise management takeoff. Tower cleared us for takeoff maintain runway hdging we departed, did the noise abate takeoff climbed to 3000 ft. I started the after-takeoff checklist. When I looked up, the flying captain was just going thru the 310 degree radial off lax. I told him turn 250 degree but he said tower told him to maintenance runway heading. I then told him no, we are to turn as tower sent us over to departure. I called them in the turn as we turned to 250 degrees. They told us we turned too late, next time start the turn sooner, please review the departure closer. I told them we were making the turn tighter and we were sorry, it wouldn't happen again. The controller explained traffic is to turn to avoid any lax traffic which he said there was none and there was no conflict this time.
