Narrative:
Executing a localizer approach to runway 28 at syr. After descending to MDA (I was flying the aircraft), the first officer called the runway in sight. I then descended below MDA with the runway in sight. I lost visual contact with the runway and I think about the same time the tower called saying they had a low altitude alert for us. We executed a missed approach.
