Narrative:

On climb out from chicago, we smelled smoke. The purser called and told us that the forward oven was smoking badly. She said that she would call us right back. After about 1 min she called back and said that she had put the fire/smoke out using the halon extinguisher and that it was simply a piece of cardboard smoldering on top of the oven insert. Power was removed from the galley per checklist and the galley remained off for the rest of the flight. Normal landing in msy.
