Narrative:

Descent to FL310 was being made at a higher rate than normal at ATC request when windshear gust activated the maximum speed feature of the autoplt. While the crew's attention was diverted to correcting the speed issue the aircraft passed through FL310. The altitude hold feature did not capture for some reason the altitude at FL310. The altitude alerter sounded at 300 ft past the set altitude of FL310 and the aircraft was immediately returned to FL310 with a maximum deviation of 400 ft. This was a very short deviation and there was apparently no traffic conflict. We were cleared for further descent almost immediately after leveling at FL310.
