Narrative:

I was given a clearance to maintain 6000 ft and a heading of 010 degrees. A few mins later I think he said climb to 9000 ft and he would have direct to monroville shortly. I then asked if I could get direct to my destination auban. I then started my climb 9000 ft. Later he gave me direct auban and climb to 9000 ft. At that point I was not sure if he had given me 9000 ft before. There was no conflict of traffic. I should have asked about the altitude when I wasn't sure!

Narrative: I WAS GIVEN A CLRNC TO MAINTAIN 6000 FT AND A HEADING OF 010 DEGS. A FEW MINS LATER I THINK HE SAID CLB TO 9000 FT AND HE WOULD HAVE DIRECT TO MONROVILLE SHORTLY. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT OF TFC. I SHOULD HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE ALT WHEN I WASN'T SURE!
