Narrative:

I found the tower to be consistently rude and demeaning to all pilots, including myself, when asking for directions or a 'progressive' as I was unfamiliar with my destination (did have map of airport). Made several flts during my stay of five days and found other pilots victims of rudeness and verbal abuse. Asked other pilots, who were local, why they tolerated such daily abuse and they replied, 'we are used to it' and 'have complained before and nothing came of it.' as I see it, to be courteous is to be safe and to be rude is distracting and unsafe to a pilot. Such an atmosphere can only lead to accidents and feel it deserves further investigation. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter recently returned and received similar poor behavior during arrival sequencing when he asked for a second advisory for traffic to follow. Reporter talked to other pilots on the field and, again, was advised that this was the way the tower generally conducted operations.

Title: C172 PLT CONCERNED WITH LUK TWR ALLEGED DEMEANOR WHEN ISSUING CTL INSTRS TO HIMSELF AND OTHER PLTS.

Narrative: I FOUND THE TWR TO BE CONSISTENTLY RUDE AND DEMEANING TO ALL PLTS, INCLUDING MYSELF, WHEN ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS OR A 'PROGRESSIVE' AS I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH MY DESTINATION (DID HAVE MAP OF ARPT). MADE SEVERAL FLTS DURING MY STAY OF FIVE DAYS AND FOUND OTHER PLTS VICTIMS OF RUDENESS AND VERBAL ABUSE. ASKED OTHER PLTS, WHO WERE LOCAL, WHY THEY TOLERATED SUCH DAILY ABUSE AND THEY REPLIED, 'WE ARE USED TO IT' AND 'HAVE COMPLAINED BEFORE AND NOTHING CAME OF IT.' AS I SEE IT, TO BE COURTEOUS IS TO BE SAFE AND TO BE RUDE IS DISTRACTING AND UNSAFE TO A PLT. SUCH AN ATMOSPHERE CAN ONLY LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AND FEEL IT DESERVES FURTHER INVESTIGATION. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR RECENTLY RETURNED AND RECEIVED SIMILAR POOR BEHAVIOR DURING ARR SEQUENCING WHEN HE ASKED FOR A SECOND ADVISORY FOR TFC TO FOLLOW. RPTR TALKED TO OTHER PLTS ON THE FIELD AND, AGAIN, WAS ADVISED THAT THIS WAS THE WAY THE TWR GENERALLY CONDUCTED OPERATIONS.
