Narrative:

At approximately XA00 on sep/fri/01, I was returning to vuo airport after a VFR local sightseeing flight. Pearson airport has a unique airspace confign. It is a non twred, class D airspace airport due to being located so close to pdx. Normally, airplanes contact pdx tower on 119.00 prior to entering the class D airspace. Pdx tower will then advise the pilots to switch to pearson advisory on 123.00, and to remain clear of class C airspace. It had been several months since I have flown into pearson airport, and I completely forgot to contact pdx tower. I avoided the class C pdx airspace and entered the traffic pattern and landed with only announcing my intentions on the CTAF. After landing, I realized that I had not contacted pdx tower. I thought about the incident and concluded that since pearson had no tower, all I had to do was announce my intentions on CTAF and follow the regulations that pertain to uncontrolled, non twred airports. It just happened to slip my mind that pearson is one of the few odd airports that has special procedures in effect. My mind set is what ultimately led to this error. In the future, more review/study of the sectional chart is necessary, especially when a few months has elapsed since flying in a particular area.

Title: A C172 CFI PLT ENTERS THE SPECIAL CLASS D AIRSPACE OF VUO ARPT WITHOUT MAKING THE REQUIRED CALL ON 119 PT 0 TO CTLR AT PDX, OR.

Narrative: AT APPROX XA00 ON SEP/FRI/01, I WAS RETURNING TO VUO ARPT AFTER A VFR LCL SIGHTSEEING FLT. PEARSON ARPT HAS A UNIQUE AIRSPACE CONFIGN. IT IS A NON TWRED, CLASS D AIRSPACE ARPT DUE TO BEING LOCATED SO CLOSE TO PDX. NORMALLY, AIRPLANES CONTACT PDX TWR ON 119.00 PRIOR TO ENTERING THE CLASS D AIRSPACE. PDX TWR WILL THEN ADVISE THE PLTS TO SWITCH TO PEARSON ADVISORY ON 123.00, AND TO REMAIN CLR OF CLASS C AIRSPACE. IT HAD BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS SINCE I HAVE FLOWN INTO PEARSON ARPT, AND I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO CONTACT PDX TWR. I AVOIDED THE CLASS C PDX AIRSPACE AND ENTERED THE TFC PATTERN AND LANDED WITH ONLY ANNOUNCING MY INTENTIONS ON THE CTAF. AFTER LNDG, I REALIZED THAT I HAD NOT CONTACTED PDX TWR. I THOUGHT ABOUT THE INCIDENT AND CONCLUDED THAT SINCE PEARSON HAD NO TWR, ALL I HAD TO DO WAS ANNOUNCE MY INTENTIONS ON CTAF AND FOLLOW THE REGS THAT PERTAIN TO UNCTLED, NON TWRED ARPTS. IT JUST HAPPENED TO SLIP MY MIND THAT PEARSON IS ONE OF THE FEW ODD ARPTS THAT HAS SPECIAL PROCS IN EFFECT. MY MIND SET IS WHAT ULTIMATELY LED TO THIS ERROR. IN THE FUTURE, MORE REVIEW/STUDY OF THE SECTIONAL CHART IS NECESSARY, ESPECIALLY WHEN A FEW MONTHS HAS ELAPSED SINCE FLYING IN A PARTICULAR AREA.
