Narrative:

After landing and taxi to hold short of runway 27 on taxiway Y, we were cleared to 'taxi via runway 27 to cross runway 22L and dogleg to taxiway V to the ramp.' we turned left on runway 9/27 and crossed runway 22L and came upon some cones blocking off the end of runway 27. We had to hold short of these and have airport personnel move them so that we could do a 180 degree turn. The controller, we now think, wanted us to back-taxi somewhat on runway 22L to taxiway Z to the ramp. We had to maneuver in the area that had been 'coned off.' no other problems. Corrective action would be for controllers to assume pilots are unfamiliar with airport. The dogleg was not a clear instruction. The txwys were marked 'V' and 'Z.' what was instructed would require back-taxi on runway 22L for about 50-100 ft.

Title: DC10 CAPT INADVERTENTLY TAXIED INTO CONES BLOCKING FURTHER TAXI AS HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO FOLLOW HIS TAXI IN INSTRUCTIONS. ARPT PERSONNEL REMOVED CONES IN ORDER FOR HIM TO MAKE A 180 DEG TURN AROUND.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG AND TAXI TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27 ON TXWY Y, WE WERE CLRED TO 'TAXI VIA RWY 27 TO CROSS RWY 22L AND DOGLEG TO TXWY V TO THE RAMP.' WE TURNED L ON RWY 9/27 AND CROSSED RWY 22L AND CAME UPON SOME CONES BLOCKING OFF THE END OF RWY 27. WE HAD TO HOLD SHORT OF THESE AND HAVE ARPT PERSONNEL MOVE THEM SO THAT WE COULD DO A 180 DEG TURN. THE CTLR, WE NOW THINK, WANTED US TO BACK-TAXI SOMEWHAT ON RWY 22L TO TXWY Z TO THE RAMP. WE HAD TO MANEUVER IN THE AREA THAT HAD BEEN 'CONED OFF.' NO OTHER PROBS. CORRECTIVE ACTION WOULD BE FOR CTLRS TO ASSUME PLTS ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT. THE DOGLEG WAS NOT A CLR INSTRUCTION. THE TXWYS WERE MARKED 'V' AND 'Z.' WHAT WAS INSTRUCTED WOULD REQUIRE BACK-TAXI ON RWY 22L FOR ABOUT 50-100 FT.
