Narrative:

I departed from gate X (XA18). When the push back was completed, with engines started, I was cleared to 'taxi up to and hold short of runway 19L (XA21).' I asked for the after start checklist and it was completed at that time. I then started a modified departure briefing since we had discussed the special departure procedure at the gate. I immediately asked for the taxi checklist. As I approached runway 19L, a small aircraft landed on runway 19L and I was cleared 'up to and hold short of runway 19R.' the taxi checklist was completed about the time I crossed the centerline of runway 19L. It look to me as though there was no anticipated delay receiving our takeoff clearance so I immediately asked for the takeoff checklist just as we were taxing in between runway 19L and 19 right. As soon as the first officer made the PA to the flight attendant came to the cockpit door to let me know they were all seated and ready for takeoff. I turned my head to acknowledge him and he closed the cockpit door. When I looked back fwd, I realized the nose of the aircraft was over the hold short line. I stopped short of runway 19R (the nose of the aircraft was about half way between the hold short line and runway 19R) but the tower controller ordered air carrier to 'go around' (XA25). On the tower frequency, I stated 'I am sorry I must be over the hold short line.' the tower controller said 'that's ok,' then cleared into position and hold. After a short time on the runway, I was cleared for takeoff, (XA27). After our initial contact with so-cal departure, so-cal told us john wayne tower wanted me to call them. The biggest contributing factors are; too many checklists to complete in too short a time, coupled with constant distractions with different clrncs, and leaving the cockpit door open for taxiing which lead to unnecessary conversation with the flight attendants. As a result, I lost track of my location. In the future, I will not move the aircraft in similar circumstances until the check lists are completed so I can devote al my attention to the clrncs given to me and to my location on the airport surface. Supplemental information from acn 523829: as I made the PA to the flight attendants and awaited their response, I divided my attention between our taxi progress and the landing traffic. Sensing that we should be stopping I turned to the captain who had already begun stopping the aircraft, and at the same time the tower told the landing aircraft to go around.

Title: DISTRED B737 FLC ENCROACH SNA RQY 19R CAUSING ACFT ON FINAL A GAR.

Narrative: I DEPARTED FROM GATE X (XA18). WHEN THE PUSH BACK WAS COMPLETED, WITH ENGINES STARTED, I WAS CLRED TO 'TAXI UP TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19L (XA21).' I ASKED FOR THE AFTER START CHECKLIST AND IT WAS COMPLETED AT THAT TIME. I THEN STARTED A MODIFIED DEP BRIEFING SINCE WE HAD DISCUSSED THE SPECIAL DEP PROCEDURE AT THE GATE. I IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR THE TAXI CHECKLIST. AS I APCHED RWY 19L, A SMALL ACFT LANDED ON RWY 19L AND I WAS CLRED 'UP TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 19R.' THE TAXI CHECKLIST WAS COMPLETED ABOUT THE TIME I CROSSED THE CENTERLINE OF RWY 19L. IT LOOK TO ME AS THOUGH THERE WAS NO ANTICIPATED DELAY RECEIVING OUR TKOF CLRNC SO I IMMEDIATELY ASKED FOR THE TKOF CHECKLIST JUST AS WE WERE TAXING IN BETWEEN RWY 19L AND 19 R. AS SOON AS THE FIRST OFFICER MADE THE PA TO THE FLT ATTENDANT CAME TO THE COCKPIT DOOR TO LET ME KNOW THEY WERE ALL SEATED AND READY FOR TKOF. I TURNED MY HEAD TO ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND HE CLOSED THE COCKPIT DOOR. WHEN I LOOKED BACK FWD, I REALIZED THE NOSE OF THE ACFT WAS OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I STOPPED SHORT OF RWY 19R (THE NOSE OF THE ACFT WAS ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND RWY 19R) BUT THE TWR CTLR ORDERED ACR TO 'GAR' (XA25). ON THE TWR FREQ, I STATED 'I AM SORRY I MUST BE OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE.' THE TWR CTLR SAID 'THAT'S OK,' THEN CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD. AFTER A SHORT TIME ON THE RWY, I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF, (XA27). AFTER OUR INITIAL CONTACT WITH SO-CAL DEP, SO-CAL TOLD US JOHN WAYNE TWR WANTED ME TO CALL THEM. THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTING FACTORS ARE; TOO MANY CHECKLISTS TO COMPLETE IN TOO SHORT A TIME, COUPLED WITH CONSTANT DISTRACTIONS WITH DIFFERENT CLRNCS, AND LEAVING THE COCKPIT DOOR OPEN FOR TAXIING WHICH LEAD TO UNNECESSARY CONVERSATION WITH THE FLT ATTENDANTS. AS A RESULT, I LOST TRACK OF MY LOCATION. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL NOT MOVE THE ACFT IN SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES UNTIL THE CHECK LISTS ARE COMPLETED SO I CAN DEVOTE AL MY ATTENTION TO THE CLRNCS GIVEN TO ME AND TO MY LOCATION ON THE ARPT SURFACE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 523829: AS I MADE THE PA TO THE FLT ATTENDANTS AND AWAITED THEIR RESPONSE, I DIVIDED MY ATTENTION BETWEEN OUR TAXI PROGRESS AND THE LANDING TFC. SENSING THAT WE SHOULD BE STOPPING I TURNED TO THE CAPT WHO HAD ALREADY BEGUN STOPPING THE ACFT, AND AT THE SAME TIME THE TWR TOLD THE LANDING ACFT TO GAR.
