Narrative:

We were with N90 approach going to land at ewr. We had not checked in yet -- approach was talking so much we couldn't get a word in. We saw the aircraft on TCASII coming right at us, and we got the RA and climbed to 6800 ft. When I finally got through to ATC, I told them we were at 6800 ft due to an RA, and all the controller said was 'roger.' the aircraft passed underneath us by 300 ft.
