Narrative:

We were cleared into position and hold on runway 10 at syr. A light aircraft had just taken off from runway 10 and several aircraft were using runway 15/33 at the same time. After being on the runway for approximately 3 mins we heard someone on tower frequency ask 'is that an airplane on the runway?' the tower came back and said 'yes, go around and make a left 360 degree.' immediately after that we could feel the vibration as a light aircraft passed overhead on his missed. We were then cleared for takeoff. After departure we asked the tower if the aircraft knew we were in position on the runway. He replied that since aircraft Y received his landing clearance while still 12 miles out no reference to us was made at all.
