Narrative:

On initial climb out from runway 27R at pbi, we were given 040 degrees and the noise abatement procedure. At handoff to departure, frequency attempts to establish contact were unsuccessful. As the captain worked the problem, I got an altitude horn at 043 degrees and immediately corrected to altitude. There appeared to be no other traffic in the area and the controller made no mention of the event. I consider all altdevs to be a most serious error. In the future, I will recognize that my predisposition to be helpful requires a constant and conscience override to avoid a flight path error.

Title: MD80 FLT CREW HAS ALTDEV DEPARTING PBI.

Narrative: ON INITIAL CLBOUT FROM RWY 27R AT PBI, WE WERE GIVEN 040 DEGS AND THE NOISE ABATEMENT PROC. AT HDOF TO DEP, FREQ ATTEMPTS TO ESTABLISH CONTACT WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. AS THE CAPT WORKED THE PROB, I GOT AN ALT HORN AT 043 DEGS AND IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED TO ALT. THERE APPEARED TO BE NO OTHER TFC IN THE AREA AND THE CTLR MADE NO MENTION OF THE EVENT. I CONSIDER ALL ALTDEVS TO BE A MOST SERIOUS ERROR. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL RECOGNIZE THAT MY PREDISPOSITION TO BE HELPFUL REQUIRES A CONSTANT AND CONSCIENCE OVERRIDE TO AVOID A FLT PATH ERROR.
