Narrative:

While conducting practice ILS approachs to runway 17L, I reported OM inbound to tower. Tower asked my intentions after the ILS. I indicated that I would return to my home base, ocf. Tower told me to turn to heading 270 degrees and climb to 2600 ft after my low approach (at least that's what I thought he said). I read the heading and altitude back to the tower, but the tower never acknowledged the readback. The controller was very busy with traffic. After my low approach, I turned to heading 270 degrees and climbed to 2600 ft. I reported in the turn and climbing to 2600 ft to tower. Tower replied with a traffic report. As I reached 2200 ft, the tower asked my altitude. I reported 2200 ft for 2600 ft. He stated that I was only cleared to 1600 ft and to return to 1600 ft, which I did. I indicated that I thought I was cleared to 2600 ft and stated it twice during the approach and the missed approach. He turned me over to tampa departure at that point. Looking back in retrospect, what I should have done was to specifically ask the tower to confirm the heading and the altitude, but I thought that reading it back twice was enough. Not so! From now on, I will require a confirmation of all headings and altitudes.

Title: C310 PLT MADE THE PROPER READBACK, BUT RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM TPA TWR UNTIL THEY CALLED TO TELL HIM HE OVERSHOT HIS ASSIGNED ALT.

Narrative: WHILE CONDUCTING PRACTICE ILS APCHS TO RWY 17L, I RPTED OM INBOUND TO TWR. TWR ASKED MY INTENTIONS AFTER THE ILS. I INDICATED THAT I WOULD RETURN TO MY HOME BASE, OCF. TWR TOLD ME TO TURN TO HDG 270 DEGS AND CLB TO 2600 FT AFTER MY LOW APCH (AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT HE SAID). I READ THE HDG AND ALT BACK TO THE TWR, BUT THE TWR NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE READBACK. THE CTLR WAS VERY BUSY WITH TFC. AFTER MY LOW APCH, I TURNED TO HDG 270 DEGS AND CLBED TO 2600 FT. I RPTED IN THE TURN AND CLBING TO 2600 FT TO TWR. TWR REPLIED WITH A TFC RPT. AS I REACHED 2200 FT, THE TWR ASKED MY ALT. I RPTED 2200 FT FOR 2600 FT. HE STATED THAT I WAS ONLY CLRED TO 1600 FT AND TO RETURN TO 1600 FT, WHICH I DID. I INDICATED THAT I THOUGHT I WAS CLRED TO 2600 FT AND STATED IT TWICE DURING THE APCH AND THE MISSED APCH. HE TURNED ME OVER TO TAMPA DEP AT THAT POINT. LOOKING BACK IN RETROSPECT, WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE WAS TO SPECIFICALLY ASK THE TWR TO CONFIRM THE HDG AND THE ALT, BUT I THOUGHT THAT READING IT BACK TWICE WAS ENOUGH. NOT SO! FROM NOW ON, I WILL REQUIRE A CONFIRMATION OF ALL HDGS AND ALTS.
