Narrative:

While I was at the propeller shop, an airplane landed with a gear malfunction and slid to the left (east) of runway 13. When the airplane I was picking up became ready, I started and ran it up then decided to go. By the time I initiated the takeoff, the plane was still off the runway and there was a fuel truck next to it. I did a short field takeoff and stayed well clear of the accident. When I landed at my destination, I found out the airport had been closed. I called the lancaster airport and spoke with airport authority/authorized to whom I apologized. Had I turned on my radio, I could have been notified before departure.
