Narrative:

Approximately 35 NM southeast of phl, climbing put of FL240 for FL280, we had a red warning panel light for the 'doors.' followed our QRH for such a situation and ascertained that as per the QRH there was an unsafe door/exit which called for landing at the nearest suitable airport, which at that point in time was phl. Asked for priority handling from ATC. Our EICAS system page for the doors constantly indicated main cabin door was open until engine shutdown on the ground. Our intentions were relayed to company. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the door light remained on steady throughout the reading of the checklists. He noted a similar problem being reported by another crew involving an emergency door not a main door. The following day after a check by maintenance, the reporter ferried the aircraft to lga with no problems, where more maintenance checks were to be accomplished. Note: the ferry flight was at 7000 ft.
