Narrative:

I departed out of fcm airport at approximately XA10. I recall now that I was cleared to climb and maintain 4000 ft in my clearance I received on the ground. I checked on with ZMP. I continued climbing through 4000 ft and at 4700 ft a controller said, 'I show you at 4700 ft, what are you showing?' I said, '4 point 7.' he said, 'ok, climb, maintain 6000 ft and contact departure on (some other frequency). I was not paying attention to what I was doing which resulted in me climbing through my altitude. I will make a conscious effort to pay better attention to things like this to prevent its recurrence.
