Narrative:

Inadvertent climb from FL310 to FL315 occurred on autoplt. Event occurred when controller asked us what flight level in meters we would be requesting entering russian airspace. Captain (flying) selected 'meters' in fcp and selected higher altitude to do conversion. Neither of us noticed the climb until we were about 800 ft high. He reselected FL310 and zan asked us if we wanted to climb at this time. We confirmed request to 10600 meters and initiated climb. Lesson learned: to keep scan going and attention to raw data when adjusting fcp. Second lesson: to keep an eye on instructor pilots who have reduced actual flying hours.
