Narrative:

While calculating the weight and balance I misread/miscopied the weight of the cargo in cargo area C1. I copied 858 as 258 leading to the aircraft being 600 pounds heavier than we thought. Also, this put the aircraft 284 pounds over maximum takeoff weight. The flight proceeded without any problem. It was discovered by ground personnel at shv and we were notified via an ACARS message. I believe the reason this occurred is a combination of the number given me not being written clearly and the fact that we were late and I was attempting to get the flight out as soon as possible. To prevent future occurrences, the cargo weight sheet could be computer generated and printed. Also, the load manifest should be doublechked by both crew members.
