Narrative:

Taxiing into atl and approaching spot X, the flight engineer said he had ramp control. An air carrier Y plane was coming out and was told to hold for us and that we were going to T9. This was on ground control. At the time, I thought it was on ramp control. Ramp then asked us, as we were taxiing to the gate, where we were going and the flight engineer replied 'gate X.' the ramp controller then told us to continue to the gate. The problem is that we did not call ramp for clearance to the gate, although I thought the flight engineer had called and received clearance. I feel that this was my fault as I assumed when I should have not. The ground call to air carrier Y made things worse. Next time, there will be no assuming.

Title: AN ACR TAXIES TO THE GATE WITHOUT CONTACTING THE RAMP CTLR.

Narrative: TAXIING INTO ATL AND APCHING SPOT X, THE FE SAID HE HAD RAMP CTL. AN ACR Y PLANE WAS COMING OUT AND WAS TOLD TO HOLD FOR US AND THAT WE WERE GOING TO T9. THIS WAS ON GND CTL. AT THE TIME, I THOUGHT IT WAS ON RAMP CTL. RAMP THEN ASKED US, AS WE WERE TAXIING TO THE GATE, WHERE WE WERE GOING AND THE FE REPLIED 'GATE X.' THE RAMP CTLR THEN TOLD US TO CONTINUE TO THE GATE. THE PROB IS THAT WE DID NOT CALL RAMP FOR CLRNC TO THE GATE, ALTHOUGH I THOUGHT THE FE HAD CALLED AND RECEIVED CLRNC. I FEEL THAT THIS WAS MY FAULT AS I ASSUMED WHEN I SHOULD HAVE NOT. THE GND CALL TO ACR Y MADE THINGS WORSE. NEXT TIME, THERE WILL BE NO ASSUMING.
