Narrative:

Cleared visual approach runway 25R lax. Aircraft Y on visual approach runway 25L. I was at approximately 6 DME, the B767 at approximately 4 DME. Final controller, when advised that we had aircraft in sight, told us 'pull up alongside aircraft Y, contact tower 120.95.' told first officer to tell the controller that we could not accept the clearance as stated. Controller said 'say again.' told controller 'pull up alongside is a clearance for formation and I cannot accept.' told controller 'aircraft Y would keep speed up to the runway, would maintain separation and follow aircraft Y to lax.' final controller used nonstandard ATC procedure and poor terminology. Used to hear this a lot at lax (socal approach) in the last few yr until 2000. Now seems to be recurring.
