Narrative:

On mar/xa/01, at approximately XA00Z, air carrier X flight abc in a boeing B757-200, en route from cvg to tjsj (san juan, pr) was level at FL370 over ahn, GA. ZTL asked us to climb to FL390 for crossing traffic and subsequently asked us to expedite the climb. Climb power had just been added and at approximately FL375, a loud bang was heard from the right side of the aircraft with a corresponding yaw to the right. EPR on the right engine immediately went to zero with a steady increase in egt. An emergency was declared with ATC with a request for an immediate descent and diversion to atl. The engine failure checklist was completed and the engine was shut down in accordance with the air carrier X B757 operating manual. The aircraft made an uneventful single engine landing on runway 27R at atl and taxied to the gate. Preliminary investigation by mechanics who met the flight indicated a possible internal failure of the engine. Supplemental information from acn 507802: landing occurred in approximately 12 mins.
