Narrative:

Descending to FL190 in VNAV, I selected vertical speed at approximately FL200 to slow the descent rate. VNAV had already captured FL190, so selecting vertical speed canceled the FL190 in the altitude window and the airplane overshot the altitude. We descended to approximately FL187 and returned to FL190. ZLC said nothing and no conflicts were noted.

Title: MD90 FLC INCORRECTLY OPERATED VERT SPD FUNCTION IN DSCNT AND OVERSHOOT ASSIGNED ALT.

Narrative: DSNDING TO FL190 IN VNAV, I SELECTED VERT SPD AT APPROX FL200 TO SLOW THE DSCNT RATE. VNAV HAD ALREADY CAPTURED FL190, SO SELECTING VERT SPD CANCELED THE FL190 IN THE ALT WINDOW AND THE AIRPLANE OVERSHOT THE ALT. WE DSNDED TO APPROX FL187 AND RETURNED TO FL190. ZLC SAID NOTHING AND NO CONFLICTS WERE NOTED.
