Narrative:
Departed sjc using altam 6 departure. Clearance delivery had given us a 250 KT speed restr. I took the clearance and shared it with the first officer. As PF, after leveling at 11000 ft, I allowed the plane to accelerate to 290 KTS before bay approach reminded us of the speed limit, whereupon, I promptly slowed down. Perhaps a well-placed post-it note would have helped remind us. Also, being in the 12TH hour of a 14 hour duty day on the homebound leg may have contributed to our complacency.
