Narrative:

Was advised by new york approach of crossing traffic at 6500 ft. As we were coming through 6900 ft, I increased rate of descent to 6000 ft. Upon reaching 6000 ft, we received a TA which was quickly followed by an RA on the TCASII. Since traffic was not yet in sight, I continued descent as per RA and turned right about 45 degrees. It was at this point that we saw traffic and received a call from approach to verify 300 ft low. I believe we bottomed out at 5800 ft and then climbed back to 6000 ft. After seeing traffic, I don't think there ever any danger. But had to follow RA as did not have other aircraft in sight. The whole event was maybe 5 seconds.

Narrative: WAS ADVISED BY NEW YORK APCH OF XING TFC AT 6500 FT. AS WE WERE COMING THROUGH 6900 FT, I INCREASED RATE OF DSCNT TO 6000 FT. UPON REACHING 6000 FT, WE RECEIVED A TA WHICH WAS QUICKLY FOLLOWED BY AN RA ON THE TCASII. SINCE TFC WAS NOT YET IN SIGHT, I CONTINUED DSCNT AS PER RA AND TURNED R ABOUT 45 DEGS. IT WAS AT THIS POINT THAT WE SAW TFC AND RECEIVED A CALL FROM APCH TO VERIFY 300 FT LOW. I BELIEVE WE BOTTOMED OUT AT 5800 FT AND THEN CLBED BACK TO 6000 FT. AFTER SEEING TFC, I DON'T THINK THERE EVER ANY DANGER. BUT HAD TO FOLLOW RA AS DID NOT HAVE OTHER ACFT IN SIGHT. THE WHOLE EVENT WAS MAYBE 5 SECONDS.
