Narrative:

On obwie ii arrival to ewr, we were given holding at gared intersection. We entered it in FMC at gared, we turned right (default in FMC). There was no holding pattern depicted at gared. ATC said we should be turning left. There is a left depicted on the rbn arrival, but none for the obwie arrival that was in our clearance. We corrected to a left pattern. No conflict with other aircraft occurred. With no pattern shown, right turns are standard for holding.
