Narrative:

Inbound sdq, descending 3000 ft MSL. Cleared direct to las OM for ILS runway 17. Placed las in 'direct to' box and sequenced remainder of ILS approach. Because of the amount of turn required, computer elected to 'smooth out' the course and failed to fly over las. This brought us close to prohibited area md(P)4. Now I know when to use the 'overfly' button on the FMGS.
