Narrative:
Believed clearance (initial) was up to 3000 ft. Tower pointed out my mistake by telling me to 'descend to 2000 ft.' I descended to 2000 ft. Contributing factor: my lack of CRM with brand new first officer on first trip, second leg.

Narrative: BELIEVED CLRNC (INITIAL) WAS UP TO 3000 FT. TWR POINTED OUT MY MISTAKE BY TELLING ME TO 'DSND TO 2000 FT.' I DSNDED TO 2000 FT. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR: MY LACK OF CRM WITH BRAND NEW FO ON FIRST TRIP, SECOND LEG.
