Narrative:

Late night flight, ZJX offered and we accepted a radar vector direct mia. Vector inadvertently took us more than 50 NM from shore. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he did not realize his error until he was already out beyond the overwater limit. Some of his air carrier flight of B727's were equipped with overwater equipment in the past, but not anymore. Therefore, he stated that he will be more careful in the future.

Title: CAPT OF A B727 REALIZED AFTER ACCEPTING A DIRECT VECTOR WHILE ENRTE THAT IT PLACED HIM MORE THAN 50 MI FROM SHORE FOR WHICH THE ACFT WAS NOT EQUIPPED.

Narrative: LATE NIGHT FLT, ZJX OFFERED AND WE ACCEPTED A RADAR VECTOR DIRECT MIA. VECTOR INADVERTENTLY TOOK US MORE THAN 50 NM FROM SHORE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE DID NOT REALIZE HIS ERROR UNTIL HE WAS ALREADY OUT BEYOND THE OVERWATER LIMIT. SOME OF HIS ACR FLT OF B727'S WERE EQUIPPED WITH OVERWATER EQUIP IN THE PAST, BUT NOT ANYMORE. THEREFORE, HE STATED THAT HE WILL BE MORE CAREFUL IN THE FUTURE.
