Narrative:
Lengthy delays at ewr due to strong gusty winds from the southwest direction. Runways in use were runway 29 and runway 22R. In order to minimize the delay, I requested runway 22R, presuming that I was within the company crosswind component limitations of 35 KTS. I was cleared for takeoff on runway 22R and the takeoff was normal. After checking the flight manual, I realized that I might have exceeded the 'operating parameter' of the maximum demonstrated crosswind component, which is 30 KTS. Flcs are expected to have a 'working knowledge' of the 'operating parameters' and are not required to be memorized.

Title: CAPT OF AN ACR MLG TOOK OFF IN STRONG XWINDS EXCEEDING THE ACFT'S XWIND COMPONENT.
Narrative: LENGTHY DELAYS AT EWR DUE TO STRONG GUSTY WINDS FROM THE SW DIRECTION. RWYS IN USE WERE RWY 29 AND RWY 22R. IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE DELAY, I REQUESTED RWY 22R, PRESUMING THAT I WAS WITHIN THE COMPANY XWIND COMPONENT LIMITATIONS OF 35 KTS. I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 22R AND THE TKOF WAS NORMAL. AFTER CHKING THE FLT MANUAL, I REALIZED THAT I MIGHT HAVE EXCEEDED THE 'OPERATING PARAMETER' OF THE MAX DEMONSTRATED XWIND COMPONENT, WHICH IS 30 KTS. FLCS ARE EXPECTED TO HAVE A 'WORKING KNOWLEDGE' OF THE 'OPERATING PARAMETERS' AND ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE MEMORIZED.
