Narrative:

Unforecast severe turbulence encounter. ZBW reported light to moderate turbulence during descent into bos from FL290-FL240. We requested early descent to below FL240 to avoid area of turbulence reported ahead. Captain (PF) slowed to B737 turbulence penetration speed. Captain made PA and seated all passenger and flight attendants well prior to commencing descent. We encountered moderate to severe turbulence descending through FL290. Requested that ZBW let us continue descent to below FL240 to get below turbulence as soon as possible. ZBW cleared us to FL230. Turbulence diminished at FL240. No further turbulence was encountered. No injuries were reported and aircraft landed uneventfully in bos. Logbook entry was made in aircraft maintenance logbook documenting severe turbulence encounter.

Title: B737-300 CREW ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB IN ZBW CLASS A AIRSPACE.

Narrative: UNFORECAST SEVERE TURB ENCOUNTER. ZBW RPTED LIGHT TO MODERATE TURB DURING DSCNT INTO BOS FROM FL290-FL240. WE REQUESTED EARLY DSCNT TO BELOW FL240 TO AVOID AREA OF TURB RPTED AHEAD. CAPT (PF) SLOWED TO B737 TURB PENETRATION SPD. CAPT MADE PA AND SEATED ALL PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS WELL PRIOR TO COMMENCING DSCNT. WE ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB DSNDING THROUGH FL290. REQUESTED THAT ZBW LET US CONTINUE DSCNT TO BELOW FL240 TO GET BELOW TURB ASAP. ZBW CLRED US TO FL230. TURB DIMINISHED AT FL240. NO FURTHER TURB WAS ENCOUNTERED. NO INJURIES WERE RPTED AND ACFT LANDED UNEVENTFULLY IN BOS. LOGBOOK ENTRY WAS MADE IN ACFT MAINT LOGBOOK DOCUMENTING SEVERE TURB ENCOUNTER.
