Narrative:

The flight was climbing to an assigned altitude of 14000 ft and was cleared direct to jammr intersection. After passing through 13000 ft for 14000 ft, the flight was told to turn right 10 degrees. The first officer was making the necessary FMC inputs to fly the assigned heading. The first officer noticed the aircraft passing through 14000 ft and that the aircraft's altitude had not captured. The first officer disconnected the autoplt and made the necessary corrections to return the aircraft to 14000 ft. The aircraft's altitude topped out at 14300 ft.

Title: MD80 CREW HAD ALT OVERSHOOT IN ZTL CLASS E.

Narrative: THE FLT WAS CLBING TO AN ASSIGNED ALT OF 14000 FT AND WAS CLRED DIRECT TO JAMMR INTXN. AFTER PASSING THROUGH 13000 FT FOR 14000 FT, THE FLT WAS TOLD TO TURN R 10 DEGS. THE FO WAS MAKING THE NECESSARY FMC INPUTS TO FLY THE ASSIGNED HEADING. THE FO NOTICED THE ACFT PASSING THROUGH 14000 FT AND THAT THE ACFT'S ALT HAD NOT CAPTURED. THE FO DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND MADE THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS TO RETURN THE ACFT TO 14000 FT. THE ACFT'S ALT TOPPED OUT AT 14300 FT.
