Narrative:

After takeoff from dsm, the stairway door annunciator illuminated, we received clearance from ATC to leveloff at 3000 ft. We decided to return to dsm. Received new ATIS, briefed flight attendants and passenger. Requested return clearance to dsm. We completed the immediate return checklist. Indications in the cockpit indicated that the door was closed, but somebody outside should have been able to see the unsecure door.
