Narrative:

Arrival into tpa approximately 15000 ft, 30 mi from airport, given vector for traffic heading 220 degrees (saw on TCASII 500 ft below us coming toward our position). Shortly after, controller gave us direct pie still at 15000 ft. Traffic continued toward us but began to climb toward us. We received an RA to climb which we complied with last seeing 200 ft separation. Told controller we were responding to RA. He said ok, after which he apologized saying it was his fault. Could not tell if the other traffic was talking to our controller. Heard nothing that sounded like vectors for another aircraft away from our position.
