Narrative:

At 9000 ft on downwind for runway 18L we had a minor vibration, but it felt like a turbulence buffet. Received clearance for 7000 ft at 180 KTS. We began descent and I notice N1 vibration gauge reading upwards, peaking, then going to '0' followed by low oil pressure. We did memory items followed by severe damage/single engine procedures. I flew aircraft and handled radios while first officer did this checklist. When procedure was finished we contacted company for single engine landing performance numbers. Flight attendant was briefed and then the passenger. We then landed on runway 9 at cvg. Crash fire rescue equipment was standing by and checked #2 engine for any sign of damage. None was observed so we proceeded to the gate. Both crew members had participated in a program at our airline. Event went very smoothly even though this program only requires 1 simulator training event per training year. The CRM training was helpful and the situation was the first emergency type situation for our flight attendant. The engine failed in a low thrust setting as we started a descent.

Title: CL65 CREW HAD ENG FAILURE IN CVG CLASS B.

Narrative: AT 9000 FT ON DOWNWIND FOR RWY 18L WE HAD A MINOR VIBRATION, BUT IT FELT LIKE A TURB BUFFET. RECEIVED CLRNC FOR 7000 FT AT 180 KTS. WE BEGAN DSCNT AND I NOTICE N1 VIBRATION GAUGE READING UPWARDS, PEAKING, THEN GOING TO '0' FOLLOWED BY LOW OIL PRESSURE. WE DID MEMORY ITEMS FOLLOWED BY SEVERE DAMAGE/SINGLE ENG PROCS. I FLEW ACFT AND HANDLED RADIOS WHILE FO DID THIS CHKLIST. WHEN PROC WAS FINISHED WE CONTACTED COMPANY FOR SINGLE ENG LNDG PERFORMANCE NUMBERS. FLT ATTENDANT WAS BRIEFED AND THEN THE PAX. BOTH CREW MEMBERS HAD PARTICIPATED IN A PROGRAM AT OUR AIRLINE. EVENT WENT VERY SMOOTHLY EVEN THOUGH THIS PROGRAM ONLY REQUIRES 1 SIMULATOR TRAINING EVENT PER TRAINING YEAR. THE CRM TRAINING WAS HELPFUL AND THE SIT WAS THE FIRST EMER TYPE SIT FOR OUR FLT ATTENDANT. THE ENG FAILED IN A LOW THRUST SETTING AS WE STARTED A DSCNT.
