Narrative:

Very soon after takeoff the #1 engine failed (less than 1000 ft AGL). The first officer was flying and the captain called for the engine failure checklist. The aircraft was flown to 2000 ft. Checklists completed. Then we took vectors around to a visual landing at lga. The emergency equipment was waiting and the captain called to have the engine visually inspected prior to taxiing to the gate. No damage was found, and the shutdown, and debarkation of passenger and crew uneventful and normal. No injuries.
