Narrative:

While conducting the arrival to sjc on oct/sat/00, out flight was issued the following clearance 'cross gilro at 8000 ft, klide at or above 5000 ft cleared for the ILS runway 30L no GS.' in complying with the clearance the captain's navigation radio was set to the sns VOR on frequency 117.3 and HSI set to the 347 degree radial as depicted on the sjc ILS runway 30L (commercial chart). This radial was set upon the captain's navigation radio in order to identify gilro. The copilot was flying. Upon crossing gilro the copilot began descent out of 8000 ft. At 7600 ft the captain realized that gilro had not yet been crossed and instructed to copilot to stop descent. After positively identing gilro using the sns 347 degree radial the descent was continued. At 6700 ft MSL bay approach informed us that we had crossed gilro at 7000 ft MSL. Upon reviewing our procedures we determined that we had inadvertently began our descent early, but crossed gilro at 7600 ft MSL not 7000 ft MSL. This situation could have been prevented with better crew coordination and a better pre-approach briefing.

Title: AN ACR CREW MISSES A XING RESTR BY USING WRONG APPROACH PLATE.

Narrative: WHILE CONDUCTING THE ARR TO SJC ON OCT/SAT/00, OUT FLT WAS ISSUED THE FOLLOWING CLRNC 'CROSS GILRO AT 8000 FT, KLIDE AT OR ABOVE 5000 FT CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 30L NO GS.' IN COMPLYING WITH THE CLRNC THE CAPT'S NAV RADIO WAS SET TO THE SNS VOR ON FREQ 117.3 AND HSI SET TO THE 347 DEG RADIAL AS DEPICTED ON THE SJC ILS RWY 30L (COMMERCIAL CHART). THIS RADIAL WAS SET UPON THE CAPT'S NAV RADIO IN ORDER TO IDENT GILRO. THE COPLT WAS FLYING. UPON XING GILRO THE COPLT BEGAN DSCNT OUT OF 8000 FT. AT 7600 FT THE CAPT REALIZED THAT GILRO HAD NOT YET BEEN CROSSED AND INSTRUCTED TO COPLT TO STOP DSCNT. AFTER POSITIVELY IDENTING GILRO USING THE SNS 347 DEG RADIAL THE DSCNT WAS CONTINUED. AT 6700 FT MSL BAY APCH INFORMED US THAT WE HAD CROSSED GILRO AT 7000 FT MSL. UPON REVIEWING OUR PROCS WE DETERMINED THAT WE HAD INADVERTENTLY BEGAN OUR DSCNT EARLY, BUT CROSSED GILRO AT 7600 FT MSL NOT 7000 FT MSL. THIS SIT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED WITH BETTER CREW COORD AND A BETTER PRE-APCH BRIEFING.
