Narrative:

Training flight to dxr. After uneventful landing and refueling, we taxied for takeoff to runway 26. Neither I nor the student had ever been to danbury before. We were told by ground to runup on an apron near the end of the runway, which was behind taxiway. After the runup, we went to taxi up to the runway. Unknown to us and inconspicuously placed was the runway hold short line, placed at the end of the ramp. The hold short line may have been unintentionally crossed about 1-2 seconds before the tower cleared us to take off. I point out that there was no conflict with other aircraft. In my opinion, the hold short line for danbury's runway 26 full length is unreasonably far from where most pilots would expect it to be. A sign should be placed expressly advising transient, unfamiliar pilots to hold short inside of the runup apron.

Narrative: TRAINING FLT TO DXR. AFTER UNEVENTFUL LNDG AND REFUELING, WE TAXIED FOR TKOF TO RWY 26. NEITHER I NOR THE STUDENT HAD EVER BEEN TO DANBURY BEFORE. WE WERE TOLD BY GND TO RUNUP ON AN APRON NEAR THE END OF THE RWY, WHICH WAS BEHIND TXWY. AFTER THE RUNUP, WE WENT TO TAXI UP TO THE RWY. UNKNOWN TO US AND INCONSPICUOUSLY PLACED WAS THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE, PLACED AT THE END OF THE RAMP. THE HOLD SHORT LINE MAY HAVE BEEN UNINTENTIONALLY CROSSED ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS BEFORE THE TWR CLRED US TO TAKE OFF. I POINT OUT THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT. IN MY OPINION, THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR DANBURY'S RWY 26 FULL LENGTH IS UNREASONABLY FAR FROM WHERE MOST PLTS WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE. A SIGN SHOULD BE PLACED EXPRESSLY ADVISING TRANSIENT, UNFAMILIAR PLTS TO HOLD SHORT INSIDE OF THE RUNUP APRON.
